Trapped in House - please send food......

It's a crazy heatwave in South Australia right now. Apparently we are setting a new record for the longest March heatwave EVER.

I just heard on the news that we can expect an overnight LOW of 28 degrees on Saturday. For our non-metric friends, that's EIGHTY TWO degrees farenheit OVERNIGHT.

We are camping in the lounge room, the only room in our house that has an air conditioner, albeit one that sounds like a truck is parked and idling in the room with us. Elecricity bill be damned. Apologies for all the fossil fuels.

So instead of leaving the house to actually do anything, I have been shopping. Via Etsy. I bought this bunny today:

How could I resist that hat? Her name is Saskia, and she was handstitched from silk and felt from the talented Astulabee, who also has a lovely blog. I pinched the photo from the etsy listing, by the way....

I'd love to have a go at making some softies more along these lines - with more attention to details, and less toy-ish and more art-ish..... I'm playing around with some new patterns and things at the moment, so we'll see what comes out of that - I'm thinking elaborate outfits on quite plain soft sculptured dolls? We'll see........ if it ever cools down enough for me to even contemplate spending time in the studio, I'll show you what I come up with.

That's it from me I'm afraid - once it cools down again I'll be way more enthusiastic. I promise.

Your Adelaide heat wave is even worse than our Melbourne heat wave. At least it has cooled down tonight!

When we were in Greece two years ago the same thing happened...nightly lows of 26-28 degrees. We were boiling since my husband's uncle didn't have an air conditioner!! I love your bunny. SHe's so cute. I recently found your blog and love it. I'm a thrifter, too, and might join your Flikr group next time I find something worthy of posting a photo. I also LOVE old luggage. Pyrex and Fire King is another favorite. Oh, and I love your belt. I definitely would've worn that when I was in my 20's!

Oh I would be hell to live with tho of course I did grow up in the same area w/o airconditioning. As MY Nana used to say...We didn't know any better. LOL

Be cool as you can and take a shower, then put your X on your wet body to (try) and go to sleep.

I am with you!!!Bring on the rain I say.We bought a new rainwater tank 8 weeks ago and it still hasn't got a drop in it!!!The other one has a bit in it only because the water from our evaporative air conditioner goes in it!!Your etsy bunny is so adorable! Cheers:)

Hey Leah! It's pretty icky in Melbs - but not as bad as SA! Bit hard to stay glamorous with all that SWEAT & YICK going on! Hope you are holding up ok and wishing for crafty cool weather!

We are having rain these few days, i do love raining days, but with this non-stop raining, it makes the whole place dam and wet.

one word for you...

handsewing.

I know, it's almost two words.

Cotton only, of course.

I find that small stuffed animals are definitely best approached by hand.

Hey, great to meet you. Thanks for "outing" yourself at Skinny laMinx - I've enjoyed checking out your great finds and the lovely things you make.
Hope it cools down there soon - we're having a lovely rainy patch after weeks of sweltering here in Cape Town.
